How to read books more effectively? Part 1

This is a question I ask myself all the time. I am talking about technical books mostly since I have to read immense loads of information at university. After some amount of research on the Internet, I want to share with You some tips I found on the Internet and my own experience of following them in the real life. Highlighting crucial information Unfortunately, to me this does not work. I spend too much time trying to grasp each and every word I meet in the text in order to analyse whether it is something important or not. I need something easier in order to build the whole picture of the chapter spending less time.     Mind maps I would not say that I practice this often but to me it is a good way to "build the picture" that I was talking about in the previous part.
